Just like working in series, only smaller. This Messy May miniature composition exercise is a fun way to do some quick experimentation.
Neuro sun #3
Once you know the rules, you can break them. I made another piece of neurographic art but I just didn't feel like colouring inside the lines this time.
Messy May “freedom”
This is a mess. Then again it was made for the Messy May challenge so I guess it's appropriate. I got to play with a couple of different techniques, so I'm calling it a successful mess.
Origami paper fan
Another quick play with a random bit of paper craft dropped in my inbox by Pinterest. This time it's an origami fan with a tassel.
Tissue oak
I keep saying I'm not going to do any more challenges and then... this is my take on the first class in the Fodder Challenge taster and I got to use a bit of the tissue paper I have been collecting for years.
Messy May “courage”
Faced with an uninspiring host's response to the Messy May prompt word *courage*, I took a more abstract approach and indulged in some contemplative painting.
Neuro sun #2
Another play with neurographic art, which taught me more about my art supplies and gave me an idea.
Messy May “adventure”
Eco-dyeing, fabric paints, embroidery and laser print transfer. Some yet-to-be-loved products get their first use in this "adventure" page for the Messy May challenge.
Collage exploration #9
Series: Collage exploration #9 It took me days to get around to gluing this one down and, to be honest, the only reason I actually did it was to get it out of the way so I can move on to something more interesting. I wasn't that taken by the example in the Project Collage… Continue reading Collage exploration #9
Messy May “happy”
Series: Messy May #3 Prompt: 03 HAPPYHost: Michelle Schratz @raspberryblueskyGuidance: Carefree fun. Create with the joyfulness of a child. I enjoyed making this one. Forgetting about precision and tidiness and, for a start, not even bothering with brushes. What could fulfil the brief of child-like art better than finger-painting? I did start by putting some… Continue reading Messy May “happy”
Neuro sun #1
A few months ago there seemed to be a lot of neurographic art turning up in my various feeds and, being a bit of an artistic magpie, I read up on it and gave it a go. As with all this sort of thing, I am personally sceptical about the supposed psychological benefits — don't… Continue reading Neuro sun #1
Messy May “showing up”
Series: Messy May #2 Prompt: 02 SHOWING UPHost: Caylee Grey @cayleegreyGuidance: Show up in your journal today, in the easiest way possible. Use a bullet point list to (re)introduce yourself to your journal. In avoiding creating an art journal bullet list, I ended up creating a piece more akin to a scrapbook page. And I… Continue reading Messy May “showing up”
Collage exploration #8
Series: Collage exploration #8 This is the other colour blocks collage; the one that I started work on before changing tack and making the ratty one. The background on this one is created jigsaw-style, but the main elements are just layered on top. It didn't feel in keeping with the examples in the book, but… Continue reading Collage exploration #8
18th waterfall card
By some weird effect of the passage of time, my youngest nephew is now 18 years old. Rather than try to find an appropriate image (not sure what that would even be) and do my usual Copic colouring, I decided to go down the engineering route and create an interactive card instead. After much browsing… Continue reading 18th waterfall card
Messy May “starting”
Series: Messy May #1 Prompt: 01 STARTINGHost: Caylee Grey @cayleegreyGuidance: Start. Either by opening your journal to a new page or by binding a journal just for Messy May. I'd like to say that I was super productive on my blogging break, that I'd spent the time working out what I wanted to make and… Continue reading Messy May “starting”
