Thank you: Geometry with lacy flower

geometric

For August, Seven Hills Crafts challenged us to create a card with “geometry”. After discarding the idea of stamped lines or grids as too easy — I like to try to challenge myself and not run with the first idea I come up with when I see a challenge theme — I remembered the mini scenery stamp that I picked up but hadn’t got around to using yet.

How:

I started by stamping the mini scenery stamp off-centre on my card panel so that there would be space for the die-cut flower to sit on one corner; because I was going to be using the Zig Real Brush markers, I stamped it with Ranger archival ink, which is waterproof. I did think about heat embossing it, but there will be plenty of texture detail in the scoring and die-cutting.

I decided to add some embossed score lines around the outside of the stamp. To help with the positioning, I held the panel up to the light and marked the outline of the stamp on the back in pencil; this made it much easier to do the scoring from the back.

The colouring was simple: two-colour blending on the larger areas and a single lighter colour for the scallop edges.

I heat embossed the sentiment on a strip of vellum and wrapped that around the top of the panel, fixing it in place with some tape on the back and some multi medium matte behind the sentiment and where the flower would sit. Then I adhered the panel to the card base and trimmed the vellum flush with the bottom edge of the card base.

I die-cut two of the lacy flowers in silver and a simple flower shape in black and layered them together. That was then glued on top of the vellum.

With the pearlised card, the silver card and the heat embossing, the card didn’t need any more sparkle, so I added some black sprinkles instead, including one in the centre of the flower.
