Birthday: Monstrous party

monsters

Another catch-up post; this card was originally made on March 21st, although the monsters were coloured at the start of February during the Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge.

When I picked out the monsters stamp to colour, I knew that it would end up on a  birthday card for my younger nephew. Designing cards for adult men is hard enough, but it’s doubly so for almost teenage boys…

How:

The colouring was done with Copic markers and I am really pleased with how the fur texture came out. The trick seems to be to just keep going until it stops being a mess 🙂 The same applies for the background colouring…

I went over the fangs with white marker and gave the one-eyed monster a googly eye.

When I came to adding the image to a card, I wanted to keep it simple. I mounted it flat on a red card base and trimmed the edges with some thin washi tape. The sentiment was stamped on a speech bubble die cut, which was then popped up on some thin foam tape to add a little dimension.
