Mothering Sunday: Bouquet and birds

countryside bouquet

Another catch-up post; this card was originally made on February 27th.

This card was for my mum. For her, it always has to be “Mothering Sunday” rather than “Mother’s Day” — something which made finding store-bought cards increasingly tricky. Rather less traditionally, there also have to be some cute critters on there.

How:

I love this countryside bouquet from Power Poppy, not only is it full of gorgeous flowers, but it also provides the perfect background for some of Tiddly Inks’ little round birdies. Both stamp sets are digital, so I put the image together on my Mac and printed it out on some Neenah Solar White.

I spent a bit of time googling for colour references for the flowers and a bit more finding Copics that would create the blends that I wanted. I am really really happy with how the colouring turned out.

I was less happy when my Wink of Stella splurged on one of the birds at the bottom. I managed to mop it up and stop it spreading, but it still didn’t look right, so I changed my plans a bit and moved the sentiment banner to the bottom of the card — you can still see that there are birds there, but you can’t see the oopsy.

I created the sentiment using a Lawn Fawn alphabet set — these are soooo useful — stamped it in black ink and clear heat embossed it on vellum. A couple of sprinkles finished it off and created a place to hide some glue to fix the sentiment to the card.
