cards

Watercolour rose

CR00521 squareFor some reason, this year I have been feeling particularly uninspired when it comes to making cards. The start of the year is always a tricky time creatively, but it does seem to be lingering, at least for actual card-making. I am more than happy colouring or doing a bit of mixed media or even actual painting, but card layouts are not filling me with joy. But when it comes to family, it’s an unavoidable task. Luckily, cards don’t have to be complicated, no matter how much my brain says I should be putting more effort in!

I always have to make two cards for Mother’s Day: one for my mum and one for my other half’s mum. I kept this one super-simple: I didn’t even add a sentiment to the front. I did think about it but really couldn’t come up with anything that I thought would actually improve the card.

I used a stamp positioner to stamp the flower in Versamark ink — I was using watercolour paper which is harder to get a clean impression on and also soaks up the ink quicker so a second stamping is a necessity — then I heat-embossed it in a soft gold.

Then it was time to play with the watercolours. I am not a confident watercolourist, but I like the effect you can get and constraining the paint with heat embossing does make life a lot simpler. Masking off the edges beforehand created a nice clean border so it didn’t really need anything else doing to it other than putting it on a card base.
