Xmas cards: Stencilled trees and critters

stencilled trees and critters

What:

Cute critters with a snowy sparkly Christmas tree background.

Inspired by:

Giorgia’s sweet critters standing in front of a tone-on-tone Christmas tree.

How:

First make your Christmas tree stencil. I drew the tree shape on my Mac using Affinity Designer and transferred it to my ScanNCut, sized it to fit on a standard A6 (metric) card base and cut it out of a sheet of acetate.

I cut two panels of Neenah desert storm slightly smaller than my card bases and used my new stencil, along with some Distress ink pads and a mini ink blending tool, to add a Christmas tree to them. I originally did the lighter one in antique linen, but it dried far too light, so I ended up going over it with old paper.

I cut a landscape line that fitted around the base of the tree from a spare piece of acetate and used some more Distress ink to create a ground for the critters to stand on.

The critters were paired up and stamped using some masking paper to get them standing close together. Then they were coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut out.

The gold sentiment was stamped in Delicata ink and the black one was done using Versafine; both were heat embossed with clear embossing powder.

The snow on the penguin card was created using a Marvy snow marker. For the other card I applied Versamark through a stencil and heat embossed it using white embossing powder.

The panels were attached to red card bases. Then the critters were mounted using foam tape and a sprinkling of sequins was added to the ground. A bit of glossy accents was added to the fox and snowman as a finishing touch.
