The Daily Marker 30 day colouring challenge #1

Birthday cats and flowers

What:

I was asked if I would join in wishing a happy birthday to Maggie on Instagram. Her birthday coincides with the first day of Kathy Racoosin’s second Daily Marker 30 Day Colouring Challenge, so some colouring was definitely called for.

How:

This started off with a bit of masking and quite a lot of stamping on some watercolour paper. Followed by heat embossing the stripes (bizarrely, the embossing powder stuck more around the set of stripes I forgot to de-static than the ones I remembered).
Then on to the colouring: this was my very first attempt at using the Zig Clean Colour real brush pens and there was quite a learning curve involved. I used a variety of blending techniques – single colour with water, two or three colours both with and without water, tip to tip – they are an interesting medium with a lot of potential. Then all that was needed was to cut the piece down to size, add the sentiment and a few sprinkles, round the corners and mount it on a card base.

Lessons Learned:

Watching videos of other people doing things is not the same as practising those techniques. I am too keen to create a finished piece to actually spend time practising, but it really does make sense and would have resulted in a neater finished effect in places.
