I haven’t made that many cards so far this year — I’ve been relying on my stash mostly — but it’s now that time when I have to start again. There are quite a few men having birthdays in the next couple of months and, of course, there’s Father’s Day as well, and I just don’t have masculine cards in my stash.
This one is for a teacher and artist and I came up with the idea when I was sorting through my unused stamp sets. I didn’t have a lot of time as his birthday is at the end of this week, so I decided to avoid my Copics and use the Zip clean color real brush markers (Ziggies) instead.
The advantage of Ziggies is that you can treat them like watercolour: they blend really easily, both with each other and also using water on (or in) a brush. The right card helps too — I used Strathmore Bristol 300. And quick and easy blending means quick and easy colouring, which means I don’t get stressed about how long it’s taking to make the card 🙂
The background was easy to do. With the help of my stamp positioner, I mounted all the stamps in place, stamped them once and then flipped the card around and stamped them again.
I wanted to keep the background monochromatic so I picked a handful of greys including the pale dawn gray which is greenish and gives just a touch of variation on the stationery.
The chameleon and scroll were stamped, coloured and fussy-cut out, before being glued to a strip of coloured vellum. That was then wrapped around the background and it was all stuck to the card base.
One done, far too many to go…
