Mothering Sunday: Pink camellias

I always make two Mother’s Day cards; the first one was for my other half’s mum and this one — which has to be a Mothering Sunday card — is for mine. Another Power Poppy digi because Marcella’s gorgeous illustrations make it so easy to create beautiful images.

Individually, the greens for the leaves don’t look like they should match terribly well, but I finished off the leaves with a glazing layer of YG25 which brought it all together and created a rich leaf colour with nice highlights.

For the flowers, I created the basic shading as usual with my Copics and then added the texture with coloured pencils, along with some white highlighting on the petals. I also used the pencils to add a little extra depth in all the shadows.

Blue tends to be my go-to colour for background outlining, but I wanted a different look for these flowers; the light earthtones give a gentle vintage feeling that seems to work quite well with the pink camellias.

I had to resort to my own handwriting for the sentiment; remarkably I managed to keep the lettering pretty even… I do so little actual writing that it’s normally a pretty iffy scribble :-). I stapled the sentiment to the image panel and mounted that on the card base. The final touch was a scattering of clear sequins.
