Wedding: Mixed media

CR00378 square

For me, dimension pretty much means popping something up on foam tape on the front of a card. There have been a few exceptions — an action wobbler here and there and a box card that I now realise never made it onto the blog (adds to todo list) — but certainly nothing that wouldn’t fit in an envelope. But then I decided to try out a bit of mixed media style craftiness to take me well out of my comfort zone and what better excuse than a wedding card for a friend who appreciates my creations.

CR00378 layout

I started by laying out some flowers and buttons and other bits and pieces and playing around until I had a basic arrangement I was happy with. Then I did the easy part: colouring the digi stamp with Copic markers and adding a touch of Wink of Stella and some Nuvo jewel drops to the dress.

The background is a piece of sticky back canvas that I stuck directly onto the card base after adding colour around the edges with Distress ink blending. I mixed up two lots of glitter bead gel with the same colours of Distress ink that I’d used on the background and spread them randomly through a stencil over the canvas.

The heart padlock is a chipboard piece that I covered in Versamark and heat embossed twice in silver. The other elements are unaltered, apart from me having to break out my iffy handwriting to add the word love to the label in the top left.

Once the glitter gel was dry, all that was left to do was to apply loads of glue to everything and stick it all in place well enough so none of it would fall off again because that would just be embarrassing. The layout did change a little as it all came together; mainly adding the various paper scraps to the corners — the empty space there started to look wrong as everything else filled up.

Actually, there was one more thing to do: make a box to put it in. Oh, and dig out my bow maker to create a bow to go around the box.

I did spend quite a bit of time on this card, but I really enjoyed making it and I’m really happy with the end result.
