Easter: Bunny and eggs

I’ve been so disconnected recently that I nearly missed the start of the latest Daily Marker 30 Day Colouring Challenge. This is challenge number seven and I’ve taken part in all the previous ones; I haven’t always coloured every day, but it’s always been fun, not only creating, but also seeing what everyone else is doing.

March and April are pretty busy times in my card-making year with several birthdays, Mother’s Day and Easter all happening in the next few weeks. So this is the perfect time for the challenge as I could do with a bit of extra motivation to get them all done in time (the usual Christmas/New Year malaise stretched its way all through February this year).

Of course, I decided to start, not with the card that needs making first, but with the last on the list: an Easter card. In my defence, I did spot this digi stamp while I was looking for an image for the one I should be making first 🙂

One of the things I want to work on more is creating backgrounds for images. Rather than use my usual sky and grass technique, I decided to try something a little different (and quicker).

Technique

Make sure to do this before you start your main colouring. Without worrying about getting your blending anywhere near perfect (I just overlapped the colours a bit) lay down three stripes of blue going from darker at the horizon to lightest at the top. Then dip a piece of natural sponge in some 0 marker refill, dab it off to make sure it’s not too wet, and tap it over the blue until you’re happy with the texture you get. Then do the same with the green. Three stripes with the darkest at the horizon going to lightest at the bottom and then dab more 0 marker refill over it with the sponge. This gives a nice mottled effect and does most of your blending for you. Let it all dry thoroughly and then you can continue with the rest of the colouring.
