Birthday: Coloured space bears

Copic space bears

Space bears! This was the first time I’d coloured these stamps and I originally only got them out of my stash pile because they were ideal for a bit of Copic Jumpstart class homework, but then I realised they were perfect as the main element on a card for Seven Hills Crafts’ latest sketch challenge.

How:

The bears were stamped on Neenah cardstock, coloured with Copic markers and fussy cut out. I am really pleased with how even the blending turned out on these; the transition between colours on the standing bear was a bit obvious once it had dried, so I just went over it again and it smoothed out beautifully. You can always go back and have another go at it.

The moon was one of many I stamped the other day when testing out the Altenew moon layering stamp with various inks.

For the background, I masked off the ground and did some ink blending. I started with a layer of yellow and pink, to give a bit of a glow around the moon and some variety to the blackness of space, and went over it with black. I was a little heavy handed with the black so the effect is quite subtle, but it was the first time I’d tried it so I’ll know to ease off a bit next time. The craters on the ground were hand drawn and the whole area was coloured with more Distress ink.

I stamped the tiny planets and the rocket in Versamark and heat embossed them in silver. I put 3 of the very tiny stars on an acrylic block and stamped them randomly in silver ink. The sentiment was heat embossed onto a strip of vellum, trimmed into a banner and stapled to the panel.

The moon and standing bear were glued flat to the panel, while the sitting bear was popped up on some thin foam tape. The whole panel was mounted on a piece of fun foam and added to a card base. I finished it off with a thin strip of glitter.
