Blank: Copic farmyards

farmyard on earth

For the “colouring round objects” lesson in the Copic Jumpstart class, Sandy Allnock masked up a comical pile of vegetables and coloured them. The only vegetation in my stamp collection is floral, so I went further up the food chain and found these decidedly round farmyard animals and stacked those up instead.

How:

I hadn’t planned on doing two cards. I started stamping and masking my pile and quickly realised that I should have stamped the chicken before the pig so it wouldn’t end up with a line cutting through its feet. I didn’t want to waste that one though, so I added the goat and called it card number two.

Card number two also came in handy, along with the MISTI, for getting the positioning of the animals right on card number one, as both the cow and chicken needed to be stamped and masked before stamping the pig.

Once all the stamping and masking was done, all I had to do was colour them. I used the two cards to try out different greys on the cows and different pinks for the pigs, as well as different styles of ground.

“I then coloured them with Copic markers” is accurate, but always seems like a bit of a cop-out when explaining how I made a card; however, I am in the process of writing up a couple of simple technique posts for the grass, earth and sky, and also one on using simple shadows to ground objects on the page.

When it came to putting them onto card bases, one went on perfectly and one didn’t. The quick fix for that was to trim the slight overhang on the open edge of the card and stick some glitter tape over the folded edge. I actually quite like the effect and will probably choose to do it on appropriate cards in future.

There is plenty of room to add a sentiment, if I decide I need one, but I’m leaving them as they are for now.

  1. Love them both! I always get myself in a mix up over masking – I’ve had to abandon several cards because I masked the wrong thing! Looking forward to your Copic post on doing grass and sky 🙂 xx
