A friend of ours regularly buys techy stuff for himself only to turn around and sell it again shortly after; this inspired my other half to suggest that there should be a “for sale” sign somewhere on his birthday card. We had already decided there would be robots and this Lawn Fawn set has a cute little gift stamp, so I decided to have a pile of presents already for sale.
The initial inspiration for this design came from Grá over at Paper Learning Curve and I did follow her recipe for the background piece: layers of sprays, ink, and stencilling, followed by running it through an embossing folder and highlighting some of the embossed edges using, in my case, gilding wax.
I also followed her advice of having some spare card around to mop up the excess colour and I ended up with another five background panels for future use.
The robots and accessories were stamped with Versafine, coloured with Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and fussy cut out — those robot arms are fiddly! I used linen thread for the balloon strings and glued everything in place, popping the robot in the middle up on some thin foam tape.

Thanks! I used watercolour paper for a change and it wasn’t bone dry when I ran it through the embossing folder – I think that helped get a really good impression without it splitting like the Neenah does sometimes.

I love creative backgrounds and mixed media, but I never seem to make them, my cards are generally more kit based than I’d like

I think that sometimes you have to actively make the decision to spend some time playing with supplies, otherwise you do end up doing the things you are comfortable with whenever you need to make a card. I could easily just keep colouring with my Copics and mixed media is way outside my comfort zone, but it is fun playing when there’s no pressure…

I just got some BoBunny glitter paste and am having so much fun making a mess, I’ve got sheets of glittery backgrounds to craft with. I can’t get ink blending to work, though, back to YouTube I will have to go
