Thanks: Red-headed girl

red-headed girl

The colouring was done on 12th July: day 8 of The Daily Marker 30 Day Colouring Challenge.

Another cute free digi stamp from Just Inklined and some more Copic colouring; I do use other mediums occasionally, but I have to say that me and Copics just get on 🙂

I didn’t have a plan for a finished card when colouring her — she just ended up in the PHDs pile (Projects Half Done) — so this was a good opportunity to raid my backgrounds box for inspiration and use up some experiments.

How:

I had printed out the girl as part of my preparations for the colouring challenge, so I just had to sit down and colour her. This piece marks the first time I started to be really happy with how hair turned out… only on the left-hand side mind you, but it was a start.

When I came to put her on a card I decided that I wanted her to be standing on top of a sentiment, so I fussy cut her out. I chose the thanks sentiment because it has a nice flat area in the middle to pop her over and found a piece of gradient watercolouring that matched the colour of her clothes to die-cut it from. I also cut the thanks from some dark card and layered the two together, with the darker one offset to create a slight drop shadow effect.

The background panel is the scrap end from an experiment creating solid heat-embossed card for die-cutting. It is basically just the leftover bits of various different embossing powders randomly scattered on top of some Versamark. I nearly threw it out on a couple of occasions, but I’m glad I didn’t because it makes the perfect grungy background for this red-headed urchin. I trimmed it down to size, rounded the right-hand corners, and layered it over a piece of patterned paper on the card base.

I glued the sentiment in place and popped the girl up over it on foam tape. No need for any additional bling as there’s plenty of shine from the embossing powder background.
