This was an unplanned card. When I was about half way through colouring the bear for the Father’s Day card, I realised that he was sitting in MC Escher’s deckchair and, once I had noticed that, there was no way I could use it on a card. But I didn’t want to waste the work I had done, so I trimmed the offending furniture away and came up with a way of using it for another card, which was lucky because up to that point I had no idea what I was going to do for this particular birthday card.
How:
The layout of the card was worked out as I went along. I started by trimming down the bear using one of the cross-stitched rectangle dies – the one I picked was the right height, but longer than I needed, so I ran it through the Big Shot a second time to shorten the panel, making sure to get the crosses lined up.
Then I decided that the bear needed some sun to go along with his deckchair. I stamped the sun and cloud, coloured it, and die-cut it to a square. Both image panels were placed on the card base at a slight angle to each other. The sun panel was popped up using thin foam tape and the bear panel was mounted using thicker foam tape with a bit of an overlap.
Of course, I needed to add a sentiment. The top right corner was the only place one would sensibly fit and, luckily, the Create A Smile “birthday” was just the right size for the space. I cut the bottom edge of the sentiment piece to match the angle of the sun panel and the other side to match the angle of the “Y”. That conveniently left a gap just the right size for an enamel dot. I added another couple of dots to the bottom corner to balance it out and called it done.
