Christmas card: Mice shaker

What:

Cute critters are a must-have for any card for my mum. I spotted these mice a while ago and knew I had to make mum’s Christmas card with them, but it’s quite a skinny image so I had to come up with a way of using it on a card and not have it look lost. That’s when the idea of making it into a shaker card came to me.

How:

Once I’d got the basic layout in mind, I stamped the mice and then filled out the left-hand side with some extra fir branches to give the tree some body. That was then coloured with Copic markers, making sure to add a window highlight on the bauble, and then fussy cut out.

The shaker window background was stamped and given Inktense pencil windows and a blended Distress ink sky with white pen stars.

The front panel with the shaker aperture and the window frame were cut using my Brother ScanNCut. The frame was coloured with Distress inks and the presents were stamped and coloured with Copics; I added a shadow under the presents to ground them on the panel.

I stamped the sentiment with Versamark on a piece of vellum and heat embossed it. I gave the vellum a scalloped edge so it would hang just over the top of the shaker window.

And then it just needed to be assembled.

The shaker background was glued to the card base.

A piece of acetate was glued behind the shaker window and the frame was glued in front of it.

Foam tape was liberally applied to the back of the panel, giving it dimension and creating the shaker area.

A selection of sequins was piled up over the shaker background and the panel was fixed in place over them.

A few dots of multi-medium matte placed judiciously behind the sentiment and where the sequins would go held the vellum in position.

The mice were popped up with some more foam tape.

The final touches were a scattering of clear sequins and a touch of Wink of Stella on the bauble and the presents.
