Embroidered baubles

This year I’ve simplified my Christmas card making by choosing three different designs — the thread stars I wrote up at the start of the week, along with a simple XMAS cutout, but the majority of them use this layout — this way I could spend more time actually creating than thinking about creating.

All of the designs are different, but they all follow the same basic recipe. A Christmas motif hand-embroidered on felt (6x8cm) which is then mounted on a slightly larger piece of card (7x9cm). That is then stuck onto a card base with a heat-embossed sentiment strip attached directly below. A few embellishments — stars at each end of the sentiment — and, in the case of the baubles, some dots of Imagination Crafts detail sparkle in the background.

I made three different bauble designs. My favourite is the red and gold one, probably because it fills out the shape most completely, but also because of the way the gold thread shines against the red. And it looks the cleanest on the white felt.

I like the purple one, though it would have looked better on a white background. But, I was using what I had in my stash and I had run out of white felt by this time.

I would do the blue one slightly differently if I was doing it again, but it’s only now, looking at the photos, that I’ve realised what I would do. It needs some additional stitches going from the edge of the bauble towards the centre — probably in a darker blue — to fill the shape out a bit. And the silver stitched bauble top doesn’t stand out well enough on the pale grey felt, especially from a distance. But overall, I am happy with how they turned out.
