When the time comes around to make a birthday card for my other half I tend to look to Mystery Science Theatre 3000 for inspiration, but this year I took a different approach and went cute instead.
After doing a little bit of stitching on the mixed media abstract cards, I fancied doing a whole card design with thread. Most of this is closer to string art than embroidery, though the weeds are done in stem stitch.

The watery background was created with a little watercolour paint, quite a bit of water, and a lot of patience as I waited for it to dry. Once it was dry, I printed out the otter pattern, laid it over the background on top of a foam pad, and pricked the holes through with a pokey tool. Then it was just a case of picking some appropriate coloured embroidery threads and following the instructions on the pattern.
