Wanderlust: pastel flowers

I am going to start by saying that I like this. I like the sketchy drawings. I like the way the soft pastel colours blend on the page. And I love that little splotch of pink watercolour on the right-hand side.

The starting point for this piece was to create a palette of colours inspired by flowers and to sketch some flowers and leaves on brown paper (for a change). The sketches were used as part of a collage layer and gesso was used to soften some of the edges. Patches of soft pastel added the base colour and some watercolour splotches and splatters gave it a bit of texture. Some mark-making — I’m rather taken with the groups of straight lines — adds more visual texture and then it’s all finished off with more sketching over the top to extend the initial collaged pieces
