Series: The Daily Marker Art Card #25
I took one look at this, the next digi in the pile, and immediately decided that I needed some bright colours. The last few art cards have been quite dark and I wanted to liven things up a bit. It’s a scarf around her neck, not a cape, but that and the short flared skirt just made me think of superheroes. So I grabbed some markers in the traditional superhero colours of red and blue.
I had to come up with a solution for the background. There’s not a huge amount of space around her so I couldn’t really do anything detailed; even a simple city background like the one I made for the happy mail monster would be too fussy. But I didn’t just want to put her in front of a plain colour either.
Then I had a thought: maybe she’s just zoomed in with her coffee and I could do a sort of swoosh of her colours behind her. So, before I could change my mind, I picked some lighter versions of her colours and trailed them across the background. I did carry the stripes all the way behind her, but that didn’t look right so I glazed over the right-hand side with grey to neutralise it.
I finished her off with a few highlights using my liquid chrome pen. It’s designed for use on non-porous surfaces, where it really does look like chrome, but even on regular card it has a bit of shine and can be reminiscent of galvanised steel.
