Encaustic landscape

And now for something completely different. This is something I have been fascinated by since the first time I came across it.

I really don’t have room for a full encaustic hotplate — and it would be quite an investment on a whim — so I settled for getting a starter kit with an iron instead (justifying it to myself by saying that the iron would be handy for working with foamiran as well).

There is a definite knack to gliding the iron across the paper. Suffice it to say that my first swipe was less than impressive; luckily wax melts and you can just add more and move it all around until you are happy with it.

I am ridiculously pleased with how well this turned out for a first attempt. Now I’m just convinced that it was a massive case of beginner’s luck and the next one will be an utter disaster! Maybe I’ll try an abstract next…
