It’s been a few months since I last made a shaker card. This little bunny and his frame gave me the perfect opportunity to make another, although the required fussy cutting was quite fiddly. But I know the person it is destined for will appreciate the effort involved.
I wasn’t completely sure that I’d be able to cut out the shaker aperture without messing something up, so that was the first thing I did. No point in doing the colouring only to accidentally slice his arm off! Detailed cutting like this, especially an inside cut, calls for a scalpel or craft knife — there simply isn’t room to manoeuvre scissors around without damaging something.
By some miracle, I didn’t decapitate the bunny or break his sign, so I went around all the cut edges with a black pen to tidy it up and then coloured it with my Copic markers.
The next step was to find a suitable bit of patterned paper to sit behind the shaker window — I must be getting better at picking paper because I only had to look through two sets before finding the pretty snowflakes: nice and Christmassy and dark enough that the bunny didn’t get lost over the top of it. And even better, it made it really simple to choose a matching Distress colour to go around the bunny frame.
Then it was just a matter of assembling the shaker. As this will have to be sent by post, I wanted to make sure it was nice and sturdy so, rather than use foam tape to create the shaker border, I cut two layers of fun foam to go behind the front panel. I filled the shaker with silver and gold stars and stuck a few on the front to finish it off.
