Embossed foil trees

When I started this year’s festive card-making, I went through the box of my old experiments and backgrounds and picked out some that I thought might be the right sort of colours to be used on Christmas cards.

One of those pieces ended up being turned into four trees. It was a piece of card that I had covered with aluminium tape and coloured with alcohol inks before running it through an embossing folder and swiping the high points with a dark ink pad. I made some measurements and cut it into triangles: 3 whole ones and 2 halves at the ends.

I could have discarded the two halves, but that seemed like a waste, so I came up with a way of disguising the join. I used one of the dies in a “starlight snowflake” set that was just the right size to match the trees. I cut it and a selection of snowflakes from some of my favourite gold card: a gold sandgrain which has a lovely texture and a not-too-shiny finish. Unfortunately the company I got it from (Papermill Direct) no longer sells it so my supply is dwindling.

After die-cutting some patterned paper for the background, I just needed to assemble the cards. The finishing touch was to add a few accents with red glitter glue.
