After coming up with half a dozen designs for trees, my mind turned to other Christmas motifs. The obvious one to tackle next was a snowflake, well six snowflakes to be precise.

My first thought was, of course, to stitch the snowflakes in white on a darker felt but I was nearly out of white thread. My next thought was to use a light blue but then, as I was looking though my collection of threads, I noticed this pretty blue-pink variegated perle cotton — I gave it a try, loved the effect, and ended up using it on all but one snowflake. I tried a different variegated thread on the other one, but the colours didn’t cycle quickly enough for a project this small.

To be honest, if I’d had enough white felt I would probably have done nearly all of them on a white background. But… I hadn’t planned on making as many embroidered cards as I ended up doing and I just didn’t order enough white. So these ended up being stitched on a variety of colours, some of which worked better than others.

Before I started assembling the cards, I prepped all the card bases, which, this year just meant folding and creasing the pre-cut red and pearlised white cards I’d bought. I would have had to buy more card to make the bases from scratch so I thought I’d make life easier and get them pre-cut and scored.

With one exception. The super-sparkly pink glitter card. As I was choosing my card bases, I noticed there was a clearance section on the site, so I had a quick look just in case and saw the pack of glitter card. And it just so happens that one of the people I was making Christmas cards for absolutely LOVES pink. I couldn’t resist.

I already had some shiny pink card to mount the embroidery on, and some pink card for the sentiment, and the variegated cotton I stitched most of the snowflakes in has a lot of pink in it. And so the super-pink Christmas card was made and was, apparently, the “BEST CARD EVER”.
