Snowflake greetings

This pair of cards continues the theme of using up things that have been sitting unloved in my stash for a long time. This time the inspiration was a pack of snowflake stickers that I came across at the bottom of my stash of half-pearls, gems and other stick-on embellishments.

They were shiny silver with blue accents and lacking in subtlety, so I knew I would need to tone them down before I would be happy putting them on a card. I could have used alcohol inks to change the colour (which might have been pretty), but instead I decided to use some vellum.

Looking at the pack, I realised that I had enough snowflakes to comfortably cover two card bases. So I grabbed a couple of ready-made bases, one pearlised white and one red, and randomly stuck on snowflakes. I started with the largest ones and moved down in size, filling up the remaining gaps with the smallest ones.

Next, I cut some vellum panels to size and glued on the Christmas word die-cut (like the last set of cards, cut from scrap card and a foiling experiment) and the heat-embossed “greetings”. I added glue behind the sentiment and stuck the vellum onto the card base over the stickers.

With that in place, I added some more snowflakes on top. These were die-cut from an old piece of card coloured with blue alcohol inks. To finish off the cards, I added a few silver stars rescued from the same box as the stickers.

I like the way the vellum calms down the brightness of the snowflake stickers, making them much more subtle, especially on the white card base. It no longer feels like I’ve just stuck half a pack of stickers on a card.
