I’ve decided to take it easy this Christmas. Or more to the point, I’ve accepted that I am not going to be able to find the time and energy to make lots of intricate cards this year. I’ve made around a dozen cards so far and will probably make a few more for particular people, but apart from that I’m going to actually use some of the extras that I’ve made in previous years.
The first card I made this year is based on the leftovers from one of last year’s cards. I made a cutout XMAS card which, of course, left me with the letters that had been cut out. I used a paint pen to colour some of the letters gold and left another set white. Along with a sheet of patterned paper and some red vellum that was enough to create a card. Oh, and a few stick-on stars.

After cutting the patterned paper and vellum to size, I started with the top layer, sticking the gold letters onto the vellum. Then I glued that to the patterned paper, hiding the glue behind the letters. I slipped the plain white letters underneath the vellum, lining them up underneath the gold letters. Then I trimmed the bits of letters hanging over the edge and added those underneath the vellum, above the gold letters. Finally, I stuck the panel onto a card base and finished it off with a scattering of stars.
