I nearly didn’t make this card. I’m really not a fan of gnomes — I’ve only ever made one other card with gnomes on it and that was done with a particular person in mind — and I didn’t want to make a card I am unlikely to use (my card stash is big enough as it is). But I’ve been doing the Gerda Steiner progressive challenge for quite a while now and it seems a shame to just drop out. So I fished around for inspiration and decided to make an easel wedding card.

I finally came up with a design for the wedding card! I had been pondering ideas ever since we were told that my other half’s niece was having a Harry Potter themed wedding. Should I go the mixed media route and create a bouquet around a wand, should I do a card with patronuses, or winged keys or… or… or… so many possibilities.

Wedding: Mixed media

For me, dimension pretty much means popping something up on foam tape on the front of a card. There have been a few exceptions — an action wobbler here and there and a box card that I now realise never made it onto the blog (adds to todo list) — but certainly nothing that wouldn’t fit in an envelope. But then I decided to try out a bit of mixed media style craftiness to take me well out of my comfort zone and what better excuse than a wedding card for a friend who appreciates my creations.

Birthday: Monstrous party

Another catch-up post; this card was originally made on March 21st, although the monsters were coloured at the start of February during the Daily Marker 30 Day Challenge.

When I picked out the monsters stamp to colour, I knew that it would end up on a  birthday card for my younger nephew. Designing cards for adult men is hard enough, but it’s doubly so for almost teenage boys…

Mothering Sunday: Bouquet and birds

This card was for my mum. For her, it always has to be “Mothering Sunday” rather than “Mother’s Day” — something which made finding store-bought cards increasingly tricky. Rather less traditionally, there also have to be some cute critters on there.
