Gilding flake swirls

This technique gives gorgeous results. I am always looking out for interesting ways to use my stencils and this one is very satisfying. The background is definitely the star here.

Most important tip for using gilding flakes: close all the windows and do not sneeze! They are incredibly light and will go everywhere given the slightest encouragement. Have a Swiffer cloth or similar handy for cleaning up afterwards.

All you need for this technique is some card, double-sided adhesive sheet, two colours of gilding flakes (I really need to get some more single colour flakes, no really, I do, or at least I need a mix that doesn’t have silver in it), a stencil, and some Versamark.

Stick the adhesive to the card and expose the top stickiness. Coat the back of your stencil with Versamark and lay it over the adhesive; this stops it being glued in place. Apply gilding flakes. Peel off the stencil and apply the other colour of gilding flakes.

You can leave it as it is or you can coat it with Versamark and heat emboss a clear layer over the top.

Stick it on a card base, add a sentiment (I cut the vellum halo by hand) and all that’s left to do is clean up.
