Mother’s Day: Pink clematis

CR00380 square

It’s Mother’s Day, so that means flowers. And it’s the perfect opportunity to use some of the Power Poppy digis that I’ve accumulated. First up: the climbing clematis.

I didn’t have any plan for the card design when I started so I just concentrated on enjoying doing the colouring. Once I’d finished with the Copic markers, I decided to add a little extra contrast and detail with coloured pencils.

I would normally have kept it as a rectangular panel, maybe just a bit narrower than the card base to give some vertical borders, but the top corner of the card had got damaged so I had to come up with an alternative solution. First, I tried die-cutting the corner, but I wasn’t happy with the look. Eventually, after much pondering, I admitted to myself that I was going to have to fussy cut it out — not that I had any more of an idea what I would do with it once I had!

I trimmed two of the edges straight so that it would sit neatly in one corner of the card base, but it looked a little sad on its own there. I glued it to a piece of vellum and cut that into a border and then did the same with a second piece of vellum, giving two “contour lines” around the flowers.

With that in place on the card base, all it needed was a sentiment. I stamped it in black and absolutely hated it. A bit of quick thinking and I grabbed some copper embossing powder, added it to the still-wet ink and heat embossed it. Much better!

  1. Sometimes a victory has to be won! I love the layers you have and the copper embossing caught my eye straight away. Your colouring is of course always spot on. Great card!
