What:
Rather than creating a straight-line panel, I used stamps and masking to build up a flower pattern following the basic angled shape and then fussy cut around the flowers. This was my first attempt at slightly more complex masking and I’m rather pleased with how it turned out, though fussy cutting Distress watercolour paper without creasing it is not the easiest of tasks.

The vellum wasn’t in my original plan, but when I held the flowers against the navy card I knew it needed something to tone it down a bit.

Very soon after starting to fussy cut them, I started to regret the decision – that Distress watercolour card is pretty heavy duty and hard work to cut, even with really sharp scissors! But I wasn’t going to let all that colouring go to waste…

I didn’t want to mimic the sketch exactly – I did that with an earlier challenge and I wasn’t completely happy with the results. The idea to build up the panel that way was just one of those “flash of inspiration” moments.
