Mother’s Day card: watercolour flowers

Mother's Day flowers

What:

Rather than creating a straight-line panel, I used stamps and masking to build up a flower pattern following the basic angled shape and then fussy cut around the flowers. This was my first attempt at slightly more complex masking and I’m rather pleased with how it turned out, though fussy cutting Distress watercolour paper without creasing it is not the easiest of tasks.

Inspired by:

The layout was inspired by the latest Just Add Ink challenge.

Supplies:

  • stamps:
Alte & New – henna elements
Paula Pascual – all year round
  • dies:
    Waffle Flower – flower circles
    Sizzix – circles 2
  • colour:
    Gansai Tambi watercolours
Judikins – embossing powder – gold detail
Versafine – ink pad – onyx black
  • texture:
Sizzix – embossing folder – dotted lattice
  • paper and card:
Papermill Direct – plain card – navy
    Dovecraft – premium vellum
    Distress watercolor cardstock
  • miscellaneous:
    Inkadinkadoo stamping mask paper

    1. Very soon after starting to fussy cut them, I started to regret the decision – that Distress watercolour card is pretty heavy duty and hard work to cut, even with really sharp scissors! But I wasn’t going to let all that colouring go to waste…

  3. Your flowers are absolutely jewel like Sarah – bright and glowing. Love your idea of using the flowers to create the angled panel – such a clever idea! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.

    1. I didn’t want to mimic the sketch exactly – I did that with an earlier challenge and I wasn’t completely happy with the results. The idea to build up the panel that way was just one of those “flash of inspiration” moments.

  4. So many bright and cheery colours here and it would have taken a while to fussy cut all those pretty flowers. Great take on the sketch this week.

    1. It wasn’t quick, but luckily I have a lot of patience – as long as I’m doing something. Waiting for things to dry drives me up the wall though…
